Car Insurance Worth the Cost?

What is the worth of car insurance? Is is something we hope to use or do we just pay for it and hope it never gets used? An interesting dilemma. No one wants to get in a car accident, the physical pain, the pain of having to have the car towed, repaired, reimbursed, none of those sound like a good time. But why pay all that money if you are never going to collect? Chances are if you are a commuter, or daily driver, at sometime or another you will be involved in some sort of an accident, and when you are that coverage that was so inconvenient will be a blessing. When you total your $20,000 dollar car and your Washington auto insurance company reimburses you for the full amount, you are glad you have it.
I think of car insurance as a get out of jail free card in Monopoly. You might not have to use it, but it is piece of mind knowing if something happens you are protected. We have good auto insurance, we rarely had any problems until our kids started to drive. I assumed we would always pay more into it than we ever got out of it. Now I wonder why they keep insuring us. Our two oldest kids each totaled a car their first year driving, and each had other minor fender benders. We racked up some serious auto body shop bills those couple of years. Luckily no one was ever hurt, but our cars and other peoples cars sure took a hit. We will be paying higher premiums for years to come due to those difficult years.
Car insurance worth the cost? The cost of not being insurance would be astronomical. It is painful, but the peace of mind and coverage in an accident is definitely worth the cost and we do eventually get our moneys worth.
